We’re already using self-checkout stands at grocery stores. Kiosks at airports and fast-food restaurants stand in place of people who used to work at the counters. Self-driving trucks are hitting the road. [1] AI chatbots are taking over customer service (and even psychotherapy) jobs. AI is cutting out people in the creative arts. I even saw a robot “waiter” taking food to a table at an outdoor café in Los Angeles.
Recent news stories note that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” said “over the next decade, advances in artificial intelligence will mean that humans will no longer be needed ‘for most things’ in the world.”
Let this sink in.
“over the next decade, advances in artificial intelligence will mean that humans will no longer be needed ‘for most things’ in the world”
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, thinks AI advancements will change jobs across almost every industry, and “have a ‘hugely destabilizing’ impact on the workforce.”
In Suleyman’s 2023 book “The Coming Wave,” he states AIs “will make us smarter and more efficient for a time, and will unlock enormous amounts of economic growth, but they are fundamentally labor replacing.” [2]
In other words, AI will take your job.
At least this is what the AI oligarchs want you to believe, so you’ll go along with their agenda.
I usually save my comments until the end of these newsletters, but I’ve decided to start with them here.
We do have power. For one thing, there are more of us than there are AI oligarchs.
When you have a choice, always choose service from a person instead of a machine. In most cases, we’d rather be cared for by a doctor or nurse with empathy, instead of a cold bot or machine. Most of us would rather talk with a person instead of a bot. We need that human connection. Real connection can never be replaced by AI.
Buy from local stores and go to farmers markets. Do what you can to make sure all of our currency isn’t converted to digital or crypto. Don’t get a brain chip, unless you’re paralyzed or have had a stroke or brain injury, and it’s used strictly for a medical purpose that will help you. Fight to make sure nature isn’t completely industrialized.
Send emails or letters regarding your concerns about privacy, the power being handed to AI oligarchs, and anything else that doesn’t benefit the future of your families, to your congressional representatives. We need them to make laws to protect us, our families, and our future.
Don’t give up hope and fight for the world that you want to exist.
The rest of this article is about what could happen if we don’t.
Do you qualify for these 3 types of jobs?
Bill Gates pointed out that three types of jobs would be secure: coders (for debugging, refining, and advancing AI), energy experts (for AI power needs, including nuclear power for AI datacenters), and biologists (for biological research and scientific discovery, because AI lacks creativity, intuition, and critical thinking). [3]
(Luckily, plumbers, electricians, and dentists will still be needed.)
Few jobs compared to the world population
These three types of jobs will require higher education. How would people with a lower IQ, less education, or no financial means, train for, or obtain, these few remaining available jobs?
Of course, Bill Gates keeps a rosy outlook for the future because he’s not only a billionaire, he’s also one of the oligarchs financially benefiting from AI technology. He and his family will be taken care of and have a good life.
What about you and your family?
Without jobs, people will not have money to pay for entertainment like streaming services, Wi-Fi, or higher education.
Worse yet, if there are no jobs, how will you pay for groceries, rent or your mortgage? Would you eventually be forced to live in your car or on the streets?
If you had no money left, if you even had seeds to plant your own food, where would you plant those seeds, and with what water?
You and your family would be in be in survival mode.
Maybe Bill Gates, who ranks 43rd on the 2025 Land Report 100, and owns 275,000 acres, will let you plant your seeds on his land. (Although, if you happen to be on 44 acres where Gates has invested his money in Kemmerer, Wyoming, you may have to share water with the TerraPower nuclear power facility.) [4]
If people don’t have money to buy anything, restaurants and grocery stores could go out of business. Walmart could even go out of business.
Amazon already has a backup plan, because it doesn’t just have online shopping, it has AI. Amazon Web Services (AWS) has cloud services. Amazon has also invested $500 million to develop small modular nuclear reactors to power AI datacenters. [5]
Whew, luckily there’s a bright side for Jeff Bezos, who’ll also be able to jet off to his mansion on “billionaire bunker” island to relax. [6] [7]
How long would governments be able to assist so many unemployed people financially or with healthcare if government coffers are low because fewer people are able to pay taxes?
Will Bill Gates, Elon Musk or Peter Thiel pick up the tab? If so, what would this mean for governmental power or democracy? These oligarchs will own and run everything.
Oh wait, we’re already seeing this.
In case you’re hoping I just have an overactive imagination, massive worldwide job loss is one of the AI catastrophic risks discussed in “An Overview of Catastrophic AI Risks,” [8] written by Dan Hendrycks, Director of the Center for AI Safety, Mantas Mazeika, a research scientist at the Center for AI Safety, and Thomas Woodside, Co-Founder and Policy Analyst at Secure AI Project.
This report notes that AI will have important advantages over human labor because it can work 24 hours a day, be copied and run simultaneously, and process information much more quickly than a human.
It will be hard to wrap your mind around this, but even if we were to be provided for, we would slide into dependence because almost all “intellectual, and eventually physical labor” would be done by AIs. This report claims “in such a world, people might have few incentives to gain knowledge or cultivate skills, potentially leading to a state of enfeeblement.”
We would become completely dependent on AIs, in “a scenario not unlike the one depicted in the film WALL-E. In such a state, humanity is not flourishing and is no longer in effective control.”
In other words, the outcome could be that we’ll become completely dependent on AI and the owners of AI systems. [9]
Will AI create new jobs?
The idea of AI “creating new jobs” is a myth, because there’s a big caveat. AI won’t add enough jobs for all of us, and those jobs will require advanced training.
From what I’ve learned, some jobs at datacenters may only last during the construction phase, while building the datacenters and new nuclear power sources.
How many jobs will be available at a datacenter after it is built? Microsoft states “generally we employ 50 full time and vendors per building.” [10] (“and vendors” might make the number 50 ambiguous, since vendors might not be full-time employees.)
Datacenter jobs will require engineering, advanced IT and programming skills. [11] How many locals in datacenter locations will have these skills? Will people with H1-B visas or o1 visas fill these jobs?
How many people will be needed to work on the mobile nuclear reactors parked on truck beds in the parking lots of AI datacenters?
Keep in mind, in 2024, 547 tech companies laid off 152,104 employees. [12] So far in 2025, more than 22,000 workers have been laid off in the tech industry. [13]
Worst case scenario
If most jobs are replaced by AI, it would cause social chaos. We’d be left with hopelessness and despair like we have never experienced in human history.
We’d be slaves to the owners of the AI systems.
